About Us

The Breath Knows was founded in 2008 by Suzanna Viney and Emma Skellern.

Leonard Orr suggested we work together and not long after we recreated the Glastonbury Rebirth Breathwork Group, which had been successful in the late 80′s early 90′s.  Later our skills enabled us to teach workshops on Elemental Healing in 2009.

Emma returned to her native New Zealand in January 2010, where she is now developing the NZ branch. She continues to be a director of TBK UK.

Suzanna Viney was trained by Leonard Orr and is a member of the British Rebirth Society.  She works with both individual clients and groups.  She runs workshops on Rebirthing and Elemental Healing.  Also a year long self-development course which connects different British teachers of Rebirthing: from David & Gilly Montgomery, Clare Gabriel and Jane Okondo to Andy Portman and Trance Dancer, Amoda Maa Jeevan.  She is an advocate of music with breathwork, introducing different master musicians, such as Adrian Freedman and his Shakuhachi Flute to her work.  Her background is in deep transformational shamanic work.  She has worked with medicine teachers from Mexico and Africa and as guest shaman with Ya’Acov Darling Khan’s Movement Medicine. She has trained in Family Constellations, partly with Bert Hellinger.  She also has foundation skills in Shiatsu, Counselling and a 3 year Healing training with The College of Psychic Studies in London.  She is from a medical family and great grandaughter of an Irish animal healer.

The Elements
‘The Elements have always been my constant support and my greatest teachers. Thanks to my parents I developed this connection from an early age as I was blessed to live by a holy spring and wood; free to run with nature and explore my place within that. At home there was always an open fire with which to connect.

At 14 I left the spring and the open fires. The elemental connection was lost which I feel created deep consequences for my soul.  At 23 I reached total disconnection and crisis point in the city when no one knew ‘the real me who ran free by the river in the valleys’. My desperate soul led me to India and then Mexico where I was re-initiated into relationship with the Elements.  In 1997,  I was buried in the Earth by my medicine teacher.  I actually heard the voice of my soul again, as the chatter of the mind surrendered to the Earth.

After 3 years of living almost wild separated from my past I returned to live in England for another elemental initiation. I was instructed each morning to bathe in cold Water to strengthen this new resolve of Spirit and Will.  It has been the most rewarding experience I know, making friends with cold water is a ritual I carry out daily.

Five years later, I encountered the wisdom of Air, and through the conscious connected breath, and together with Family Constellations began to heal my emotional wounds, the echos of my ancestors’.

Suzanna first experienced Rebirthing-Breathwork in 2005.  In 2007 she completed her first ten sessions with Amoda Ma Jeevan.  ‘I couldn’t believe it was possible to reach the shadows of our subconscious this way.  In my shamanic experience only medicine plants had accessed such depths, but when I experienced that the breathe has an equaled ability it really made me smile.  I love the body’s sacred intelligence, it really deepened my respect for its incredible nature.

I personally had come to a standpoint in my own work where every client mirrored my own unattended wounds.  Through the breath I went through a series of transformations / initiations that rebirthed me into raw sobriety where I had to recognize I too was wounded.  The only difference between a healer and not being one is that the healer often thinks its the outside that needs the healing, but in reality its just reflections of whats going on with us personally. Was this what my ancestors were trying to do?  Heal, anaethetise and surgically remove all these reflections of their own emotional sadness?   ‘Sobriety’ was a real humbling state for me.  I put down my ‘healer’s’ cap and with the breath’s intelligence looked inside.  I am still looking and experiencing.  Life is a journey of experience and the richness for me has come by visiting my shadow with support and moving through it.  The breath teaches we need to breathe through whatever comes up for us.  We need to feel and we need to acknowledge.  The best thing about the breath and in fact all the elements is that no matter what happens to us, how we feel about ourselves, we can just come back to the breath and we feel strong inside.   It has been the most satisfying experience of my life to acknowledge these imperfections where I’ve felt scared shamed or vulnerable and then come back to the breath where I am strengthened and can acknowledge that they aren’t me. ..just places of experience and to learn from.  In my experience this strength continues in daily life, where whatever comes up our core feels strong because of this clearing method.  We can consciously breathe through everything. It is such a gift.

Suzanna is also an Artist and has a degree in Latin American Studies and MA in Visual Anthropology.

Be Your Nature
The Elements Know

Emma Skellern is a trained psychologist who previously specialised in assisting businesses to develop their people’s potential at work. Recently, she has switched to working with people in the community, using her psychology background to support people experiencing mental health crisis.  Currently in New Zealand she is working with the Maori.  While born in the UK, Emma was brought up in New Zealand. She then spent five years in Melbourne where she completed her Masters in Psychology and began working as a psychologist.  She travelled for a year through Asia and America and then settled in Glastonbury, UK.

Alongside her professional path,  personally Emma has been on a path of self development for the past 12 years. Having embraced meditation, yoga and explored many eastern philosophies, she came across rebirthing breathwork in 2006. Intuitively she knew this was a technique that could release the subconscious patterns that were holding her back, but were so difficult to access using conventional healing processes. Straightaway she had amazing experiences with the breath, and her life began to change quickly.
She went to India to complete breathwork training with Sondra Ray and there she met Babaji, Leonard Orr’s guru and the yogi who gifted this breathwork technique to the world. She then completed a series of trainings with Leonard Orr in Poland and at his home in Virginia, America. It was through Leonard, rebirthing breathwork’s founder, that she realised the profound healing potential of the elements and her work began to unfold.
